The Wedding of Joanne Tomblin and Robert Sheraton South Croxton, Leicestershire 3.00 pm 14th July 2007
'It was fate', we thought ! On the very day that we were due to sing in a concert at Newtown Linford, Leicestershire, a beautiful bride was getting married at a nearby village of South Croxton. Not only that, but the bride happened to stumble across our website and see that we were already singing in the evening at a venue nearby. What's even more amazing is that she sampled our music off the website and loved it ! (Only joking .......... we are good !!!!!!!).
After a few hasty emails, we arranged to sing at the wedding of Joanne and Rob in South Croxton.
Getting people from Birmingham, Nottingham and Staffordshire to a small village in Leicestershire appeared to be a relatively straightforward task. Suffice to say, the bride was about 25 minutes late due to circumstances beyond her control and it was just as well because two of our esteemed altos were 26 minutes late and pushed past the bride as she majestically walked up the aisle !
The service started and soon we were into the bride's favourite, Bruckner's Ave Verum and she bravely managed to hold back the tears as we sang. They weren't tears of joy but agony of the way we sang it (Again .... only joking ....... we're quite good really !!!).
Whilst the register was being signed, the congregation were entertained with versions of Parts' Bogoroditsye Dyevo, Amazing Grace, Byrd's Ave Verum and, very appropriately 'Flower of Beauty'.
As the ceremony ended and refreshments were taken at the back of the church, we sang A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square and 'Our Love is Here to Stay'
Before leaving, we were asked for a final encore, so it had to be 'Chattanooga Choo Choo' (Don't know why, although the bride's dress did have a 'train' !!J
It was a lovely ceremony and Friday Voices enjoyed being part of a special occasion.
We all agreed that it would be a good idea to sing at a few more weddings ..................
Thanks and best wishes to Joanne and Rob for a long and happy marriage !
